The Visit Vietnam Year - Dien Bien 2024 is a typical cultural - economic - social event of national and international scale, especially associated with the 70th anniversary of the Dien Bien Phu Victory (7th May 1954 - 7th May 2024). The organisation of the Visit Vietnam Year aims to raise awareness at all levels, sectors and people about the position, role and importance of tourism activities in socio-economic development.

The year 2024 is an important year with historical milestones for the people of Dien Bien Province: Celebrating the 70th Anniversary of the Dien Bien Phu Victory (7th May 1954 - 7th May 2024), 115 years of establishment of the province (28th June 1909 - 28th June 2024), 75 years of establishment of the Provincial Party Committee (10th October 1949 - 10th October 2024), 20 years of separation and establishment of Dien Bien Province (1st January 2004 - 1st January 2024), and 270 years of the Hoang Cong Chat insurgent army liberating Muong Thanh…

At the same time, this is an opportunity to introduce and promote the beauty of tangible and intangible cultural values, resources and unique tourism products of the people, country of Vietnam in general and Dien Bien Province in particular. By 2024, Dien Bien Province will strive to welcome 1.3 million visitor arrivals; Total tourism receipts reached VND2,200 billion; contributing to the breakthrough development of tourism, creating motivation for socio-economic development of Dien Bien Province in the coming years.

Accordingly, the Opening Ceremony of the Visit Vietnam Year - Dien Bien 2024 and Hoa Ban Festival will be held in March 2023 in Dien Bien Phu City, Dien Bien Province. The programme is expected to be broadcast live on Vietnam Television and received on Radio and Television stations in some provinces and cities.

The Closing Ceremony “The Visit Vietnam Year - Dien Bien 2024” is expected to be held at the end of December 2024 in Dien Bien Phu City, Dien Bien Province, including cultural and artistic performance programmes; Handing over the flag to the locality hosting the Visit Vietnam Year 2025.

The Organising Board will organise a press conference to introduce the Visit Vietnam Year 2024 in the first quarter of 2024 in Ha Noi and Ho Chi Minh City to provide information about the programme and preparations for organising the Visit Vietnam Year - Dien Bien 2024 to central and local news and press agencies.

According to the plan, MOCST will chair and co-organise 13 cultural, sports and tourism activities and events. Dien Bien Province will host 28 activities and events. In addition, there will be many special activities and events organised by provinces and centrally-run cities in response.

Dien Bien is a mountainous province, is located in the Northwest of the country, a land with a long history of formation and development, and a particularly important geographical, defence and security position. Besides, Dien Bien has diverse terrain, fresh climate, many majestic natural landscapes, heroic history, and unique cultures of ethnic groups... With the above characteristics, Dien Bien Province has much potential to build and develop diverse types and products of tourism such as historical - spiritual tourism, cultural and ecological tourism, recreation, and wellness tourism.
