Accordingly, flight number VN1802 of Vietnam Airlines departed from Noi Bai Airport (Ha Noi) at 9:30 a.m. and brought the first passengers to Dien Bien Airport at 10:30 a.m. on 2nd December 2023.

Immediately after landing, Vietnam Airlines performed a ribbon-cutting ceremony to launch the first commercial flight by Airbus A321 to Dien Bien with the participation of leaders of the Ministry of Transport and the State Capital Management Committee, leaders of Dien Bien Province and passengers on the flight. Five lucky passengers on this flight received ticket for any domestic flight as a gift.

The safe operation of modern jet aircraft A321 at Dien Bien Airport is considered an important milestone for the aviation industry as well as opening up new development opportunities for Dien Bien Province.

The Ha Noi - Dien Bien route is operated by Vietnam Airlines with a frequency of 7 flights per week, departing on all days of the week. Flights depart from Ha Noi at 1:05 p.m and arrive in Dien Bien at 2:05 p.m. The return trip departs from Dien Bien at 2:45 p.m. and lands in Ha Noi at 3:35 p.m.

On the same day, Vietnam Airlines and the People's Committee of Dien Bien Province signed a comprehensive cooperation agreement for the period 2024 - 2028. Accordingly, Dien Bien Province and Vietnam Airlines will strengthen cooperation in advertising and promotion of Investment - Trade - Tourism - Aviation; coordinate research on products, routes, and tourist attractions; At the same time, organise or participate in national and regional foreign affairs, education, culture, sports, tourism, investment and trade events…

At the Signing Ceremony, Mr. Le Thanh Do - Chairman of the People's Committee of Dien Bien Province said, the resumption of operation of Vietnam Airlines in Dien Bien is a important event, a bridge between Ha Noi, regions throughout the country and international friends to Dien Bien, creating motivation and opening up opportunities to promote socio-economic development, ensure national defence and security of Dien Bien Province in the coming time.

Mr. Dang Anh Tuan, Deputy General Director of Vietnam Airlines stressed, upgrading and expanding Dien Bien Airport will power up Dien Bien's tourism and economy; contributing to promoting regional and international connectivity. With the advantage of short flight time and high frequency, Vietnam Airlines believes it will be an effective bridge to bring tourists and investors to explore the historical land of the Northwest conveniently, shortening the geographical distances as well as makes the transportation and circulation of goods easier.
