Da Nang expands to attract Indonesian tourist market

(TITC) - From 8th to 12th January 2024, Da Nang City Department of Tourism coordinated with Da Nang City Tourism Association and Indonesian Travel Association ASTIDO to welcome 35 ASTINDO member tour operators in many cities of Indonesia to inspect Da Nang and Central of Vietnam.

According to the programme, the group focused on surveying prominent destinations in Da Nang and Central Vietnam such as Ba Na Hills, Marble Mountains, Cham Museum and Hoi An.

Following the success of the destination introduction activity in Jakarta, Indonesia in October 2023, the fam trip programme creates an opportunity for Indonesian travel businesses interested in developing products in Da Nang, Vietnam, to inspect and experience the destination.

Also within the framework of the fam trip programme, the Department of Tourism organised the Tourism Seminar “Solutions for attracting Indonesian travellers and promoting air routes from Indonesia to Da Nang on 10th January 2024.

Attending the discussion were representatives of the Department of Tourism and Da Nang City Tourism Association and its members, Da Nang International Airport, Vietnam Airlines, Vietjet Air, tourism businesses and 35 members of the fam trip delegation.

In addition to providing Indonesian delegation with general information about the destination, including typical products and services, service capacity and achievements in Da Nang tourism development over the past time, the Seminar provided information about the Indonesian market through the speech of Ms. Pauline Suharno, President of ASTINDO Association, questions and answers, and discussions between guests and fam trip members.

The discussion also focused on discussing solutions to effectively operate flights from Indonesia, including charter and connecting flights, and promote the opening of direct flights.

Indonesia is considered a potential market with the 4th largest population in the world and the largest population in Southeast Asia with more than 280 million people. According to Ms. Pauline Suharno, international and domestic flights in Indonesia have recovered more than 90% after Covid-19 and tourism demand, increased significantly with the option to target new destinations, organised tourism programmes and high-end tourism programmes.

Also according to Ms. Pauline, the Muslim tourist market from Indonesia is not too strict, services labelled Halal-friend will encourage more visitors to use the services.

With the orientation of diversifying tourism source markets, focusing on specific markets such as the Muslim tourist market, Da Nang tourism strengthens promotion to the Indonesian market, focusing on developing Halal services. Da Nang International Airport put into use a prayer room to serve Muslim passengers from the beginning of 2023. Many accommodation businesses organise prayer rooms and introduce Muslim-friendly services.

In 2023, the number of Indonesian visitors to Da Nang reached more than 26 thousand arrivals, reaching about 25% of the total number of Indonesian visitors to Vietnam.
