(TITC) - On 25th January, on the sideline of the ASEAN Tourism Forum (ATF) 2024 in Vientiane, Lao PDR, Mr. Nguyen Van Hung, Minister of Culture, Sports and Tourism (MOCST), had a bilateral meeting with Mr. Kunihiko Hirabayashi, Secretary General of the ASEAN-Japan Centre (AJC). Attending the meeting was Mr. Nguyen Trung Khanh, Chairman of Vietnam National Authority of Tourism (VNAT).
Speaking at the meeting, Mr. Kunihiko Hirabayashi, Secretary General of the ASEAN-Japan Centre (AJC) thanked Vietnam for closely coordinating with AJC in organising a workshop “Digital Skills for Green Tourism Enterprises: Training of Trainers” for delegates of ASEAN countries in Hue, Vietnam in December 2023. The workshop was attended by delegates from 8 ASEAN member countries. At the same time, the AJC Secretary General expressed the desire to exchange and cooperate with Vietnam on sustainable tourism development.
MOCST’s Minister Nguyen Van Hung noted and highly appreciated AJC's support for Vietnam's tourism industry in recent times, especially in human resource training activities, improving the competitiveness of the tourism industry, and promoting culture and tourism. In which, AJC coordinated with VNAT and Asian Development Bank (ADB) in organising the workshop “Digital Skills for Green Tourism Enterprises: Training of Trainers” for delegates of ASEAN countries in Hue, thematic seminars in Vietnam…
Regarding the priorities for sustainable tourism development, the Minister proposed AJC to support connecting Vietnam tourism with international organisations and investors in the tourism sector of Japan and the region to sponsor projects on sustainable tourism and green tourism in Viet Nam.
He added, in 2023, Vietnam welcomed 590 thousand visitor arrivals from Japan, recovering 62% compared to before the pandemic. It is expected that in 2024, Vietnam will organise more cultural and tourism promotion activities in the Japanese market. Therefore, the Minister hopes that the ASEAN-Japan Centre will continue to pay attention and support Vietnam in organising these events.
