The first group of tourists entering through Lao Cai International Border Gate consisted of 15 people and was welcomed by Viet Image International Travel Company Limited (Lao Cai). The company offered a 3-day, 2-night tour for the group in Lao Cai City and Sa Pa Town.

After a long period of being affected by the Covid-19 pandemic, several tours between Lao Cai (Vietnam) and Honghe Hani, Yunnan Province (China) had been interrupted. This event is one of the activities concretizing the contents of the agreement on tourism development cooperation between the Department of Tourism of Lao Cai (Vietnam) and Honghe Hani (China) on 18th January 2023 and contents of agreement at the meeting and exchange of visitors between travel businesses of Lao Cai (Vietnam) and Yunnan (China) taking place on 29th January.

Representative of the Department of Tourism of Lao Cai Province informed: In the past year, many tourists from the two countries went back and forth to visit and relax in Lao Cai Province and Yunnan Province. In 2024, Lao Cai aims to welcome about 8.5 million visitor arrivals, with about 800 thousand international visitor arrivals, of which Chinese tourists account for about 45 - 50% of international visitors to Lao Cai.
