(TITC) - Banh mi, pho, broken rice, fried spring rolls,... and many other dishes of Vietnamese cuisine are in the Top 100 Asian Street Foods.
TasteAtlas, a culinary site specialising in reviews of traditional dishes, local specialties and authentic restaurants, published Top 100 Asian Street Foods. The list of Asia's top 100 street foods was announced in April 2024, based on a combination of diners' preferences and expert opinions, with nearly 23,000 ratings.
Banh mi is at number 4. Two other types of banh mi listed on the list are meat banh mi at 22nd, and roasted pork banh mi at 47th.

Beef pho ranks 16th on the list. This is a traditional dish made from beef, prepared with many spices and beef parts, with broth made from beef bones.
Pho ranks 25th, including other types of pho, and many ways of preparation in each region in the North and South, each with its own distinct flavour. Chicken pho ranks 94th, characterised by a lighter broth than beef pho, accompanied by many different types of chicken.

Broken rice (com tam) ranks 18th. This is a typical dish of the South, made from soft, loose rice grains. When eaten, broken rice comes with other special foods such as fried eggs, spring rolls, or grilled pork ribs.

Vietnamese fried spring rolls (nem rán), also known as chả giò in the South, ranks 55th. Spring roll leaves wrapped with pork, shrimp and vegetables are a familiar dish of Vietnamese people, especially indispensable during Tet holidays.

Ranked 87th is banh xeo (Crispy Vietnamese pancake), filled with green onions, bean sprouts, shrimp and pork or beef. The crust is made from rice flour mixed with water, turmeric powder and coconut milk, then fried, folded and served with herbs. The fatty taste of the fried dough is neutralised by the accompanying green vegetables and rich dipping sauce.
