VNAT to enhance cooperation with UN Tourism country members and promote tourism further

(TITC) - On the sideline of the Ceremony of World Tourism Day 2024, taking place in Tbilisi, Georgia (on 27th September 2024), Mr. Ha Van Sieu - Vice Chairman of Vietnam National Authority of Tourism (VNAT) had a meeting with UN Tourism and representatives of a number of tourism agencies from other countries on tourism development cooperation.

The Vietnamese delegation had a meeting with UN Tourism on the cooperation in organising the 1st UN Tourism Conference on Tourism for Rural Development from 9th to 11th December 2024 in Hoi An, Quang Nam Province (Central Region of Vietnam). On the sideline of the Opening Ceremony of World Tourism Day 2024, VNAT’s Vice Chairman Ha Van Sieu had a meeting with leaders of the Tourism Board and The State Tourism Agency of the Republic of Azerbaijan.

Informing about the development of Vietnam tourism in recent times, VNAT’s Vice Chairman Ha Van Sieu stated, Vietnam tourism has recovered strongly and swiftly after the COVID-19 pandemic. In the first 8 months of 2024, Vietnam welcomed 11.4 million visitor arrivals, up 45.8% compared to the same period in 2023 and increased by 1.0% compared to the same period in 2019; served nearly 90 million domestic trips, and total tourist receipts reached USD 23.8 billion.

Vietnam tourism has been praised and honoured by international organisations, media agencies and travel websites with many prestigious awards such as World’s Leading Heritage Destination, World’s Best Golf Destination, Asia’s Leading Destination, Asia’s Leading Cuisine Destination, Asia’s Leading Nature Destination… Recently, VNAT has paid attention to promotional works abroad to attract visitors from target markets, push up the number of international visitors to Vietnam.

The two sides discussed promoting cooperation and tourist exchange between Vietnam and Azerbaijan. In particular, the two sides will work with authorities and airlines to promote the opening of direct flights. The two sides also agreed to attend each other's events and support each other in providing information, organising tourism promotion activities, exchanging delegations, facilitating businesses of both sides to connect, seek business opportunities, and sign cooperation agreements. At the same time, it is recommended that relevant agencies facilitate travel for tourists between the two countries.

The Vietnamese delegation also had a meeting with the Thailand delegation - representative of Thai Ministry of Tourism and Sports. The two sides discussed and agreed to continue strengthening bilateral cooperation and coordinating the implementation of activities within the ASEAN framework and work together to effectively harness the cooperation framework of the UN Tourism.
