(TITC) - Mr. Nguyen Trung Khanh, Chairman of Viet Nam National Authority of Tourism (VNAT) had a meeting with Mr. Lee Chang Kun, Viet Nam Tourism Ambassador to the Republic of Korea (RoK), to discuss the cooperation direction in his new term for 2024 - 2029 tenure.
Lee Chang Kun was born in 1958 in Seoul. He is the 31st generation descendant of King Ly Thai To and the 26th generation descendant of Prince Ly Long Tuong, who immigrated to the RoK in the 13th century. Mr. Lee Chang Kun has been appointed as Viet Nam Tourism Ambassador to the RoK since 2017. On 1st July 2024, in Seoul, within the framework of Forum on Viet Nam - Korea Tourism Promotion and Cultural Cooperation, Minister of Culture, Sports and Tourism Nguyen Van Hung awarded the Decision to reappoint Mr. Lee Chang Kun as Viet Nam Tourism Ambassador to RoK for 2024 - 2029. |
Addressing the meeting, Chairman Nguyen Trung Khanh highly valued the role of Mr. Lee Chang Kun as Viet Nam Tourism Ambassador to the RoK. He has organised many cultural exchange activities and tourism promotion between Viet Nam and RoK. Notably, Mr. Lee Chang Kun established the Viet Nam Tourism Promoting Office in RoK and developed a plan for cashless electronic travel payment for Korean tourists. After its establishment, the Office implemented many activities to enhance the promotion of the country, culture and people of Viet Nam to Korean people.

In addition, Ambassador Lee Chang Kun also proactively coordinated with the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism of Viet Nam and VNAT to organise tourism promotion programmes such as the Viet Nam Tourism and Culture Festival in RoK, activities to improve service quality for Korean tourists. Since then, Viet Nam has witnessed a large number of Korean tourists flocking to the country and RoK has become the leading source market of Viet Nam. In the first 9 months of 2024, the number of Korean tourists to Viet Nam reached more than 3.3 million arrivals, accounting for 26.7% of international visitors to Viet Nam. This good result could not have been achieved without the active contributions of Ambassador Lee Chang Kun and the Viet Nam Tourism Promotion Office in RoK, VNAT’s Chairman Nguyen Trung Khanh exclaimed.
Chairman Nguyen Trung Khanh then called on the Ambassador and his associates to complete the action plan for his new term, carefully preparing for the communication, promotion, market study tasks, connecting businesses and investors between Viet Nam and RoK…
For his part, Mr. Lee Chang Kun expressed his determination to promote Viet Nam Tourism in RoK. He also expressed his love for Viet Nam and his desire to make practical contributions to the development of Viet Nam.
“Viet Nam tourism has a lot of potential to attract international tourists. Some places such as Nha Trang, Da Nang, Phu Quoc,... have drawn a large number of tourists from South Korea”, he said. Mr. Lee Chang Kun will enhance the linkage with localities in Viet Nam; organise roadshows, promotional programmes to introduce Viet Nam tourism widely in South Korea; connect tourism management authorities, businesses, localities and destinations of the two countries.
